How to Stay Hydrated

Girls on Stairs Drinking Water with Indigo Marine Collagen Peptides

We all know that drinking enough water every day is important to our overall health, but hydration can be more than just drinking water; there are many foods, such as lettuce or watermelon, that can aid in our hydration goals. However, a fantastic way to stay hydrated is to create water intake goals. There are many benefits of drinking water for our organs, skin, joints, and even our sleep!

Benefits of drinking water

There are many benefits of drinking enough water every day. Hydration can improve your skin complexion and reduce acne. By drinking enough water, your body can flush out toxins and that can improve the health of your skin and body. Staying hydrated can also help reduce wrinkles! Water helps maintain your skin elasticity and those who drink large amounts of water are less likely to show as many signs of aging.

Help brain function and keep you focused. Many studies have shown that hydration benefits cognitive function by improving mood, energy, and focus. Water can also help you sleep better! Water increases the blood flow to your brain which increases the oxygenation that calms the brain, resulting in a better night’s sleep.

Joint health. Drinking water can help lubricate the cartilage which cushions your joints. It also can reduce inflammation around your joints. Keeping the cartilage between your joints soft and hydrated, you could see less joint pain throughout your day.

Staying hydrated is a great way to promote a healthy gut. Drinking enough water can help you stay regular and aid in breaking down foods with your stomach enzymes.

How much water should you drink everyday?

The rule we have all heard is 8 glasses of 8 ounces of water every day, but that may not be the case for everyone. Some experts say to constantly sip on water throughout the day, even when you’re not thirsty. Your water intake goals depend on your lifestyle, weight, diet, and even where you live!

A good rule of thumb to consider is to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water. So, if you weigh 140 pounds, you should aim to drink 70 ounces of water every day. Of course, if you work out or lose water through sweat, you will need to drink more water to replenish that.

How to stay hydrated

Since the goal is to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water, we wanted to give three tips on how to meet your hydration goal every day!

Sip on water throughout the day. Whenever you’re wanting a refreshing beverage, reach for some water. Replacing current drinks, such as soda, with water will help you reduce your sugar intake and help you reach our fluid goals. Also, drinking water throughout the day will help keep your thirst quenched and can even help keep your breath fresher.

Bring a reusable water bottle with you everywhere you go. Keep it in your bag, your car, or just carry it with you! By bringing a reusable bottle, you are able to refill and sip on your water throughout the day. You’ll also be reducing single-use plastic water bottles!

Add flavor to your water. Sometimes it’s tough to want to drink water and we crave something with some flavor! When that happens, try adding fresh fruit to your water like lemons, strawberries, or pineapple! If you’re looking to give your water a boost, try adding a scoop of our flavored Marine Collagen to your water bottle. Not only will it help your water taste delicious (current fave: Dragon Fruit), but you’ll be getting all the benefits of collagen while staying hydrated!
